J Brand Jeans come to ASOS

Ok guys so I know I’ve abandoned you for a few weeks but it is the summer and I am sure you are all coping fine at strutting your stuff in the sun without me! Hopefully some of my previous posts have suitably equipped you to cope with any summer wardrobe dilemmas you might encounter such as Summer Weddings 2011 or Summer workwear for 2011.

In any case you will completely forget about the last few weeks of neglect when I tell you the exciting news that has prompted me to extract myself from the sunlounger and cast aside my 70s style floppy hat….drum roll….wait for it….J Brand has come to ASOS!! Now, for those of you who don’t know what I am talking about, get with the programme! J Brand is the ultimate skinny jeans, think the Levis 501 of the 2011 girl’s wardrobe, if there is one item of clothing you are going to spend nearly £200 on, then make it a pair of J Brand skinnies or if you have an incurable fear of skinny jeans their new Love Story bell bottom is also a great bet. Trust me this is an investment these jeans will make your ‘derriere’ look like it’s been to the gym 3 times this week already, and every other week for the last 2 years! If you don’t believe me check out their website www.jbrandjeans.com ; I dare you to resist!

Anyway so the great news is that for us who don’t live in the big smoke that is London and don’t have access to a large Selfridges, we can now indulge in J Brand addiction through my favourite shopping website ASOS, they only have a limited collection, but it’s definitely a start! They have opted to stock some of the trademark bright colours as well which is great if you are slightly more adventurous, although with the price of these I would probably advise that if you are only going to buy one pair it would be best to go with a classic investment piece such as some washed-out blue bell bottoms or some black skinnies, rather than the whimsical canary yellow jeans you love this season but will probably hate by next year, trust me I’ve been there! And one last piece of advice, shopping online is great but if you can get to a store and try the jeans on that is definitely the better option, some of the larger House of Frasers also stock them, or if you are headed across the Atlantic to the states this summer make it your holiday mission! Let me know how you get on with yours, I’m saving my pennies for my first pair!

What to wear with Palazzo trousers

Continuing on the theme of summer trends I wrote an article a few weeks ago about Riviera style clothes, particularly focusing on palazzo pants, since then I have had a lot of friends and readers asking me what exactly they should wear these pants with? Yes they are a flattering shape but the can be hard to match without getting drowned in silhouette-less mass of material. Well to answer the question ‘What should I wear with Palazzo pants’ I would say it really depends on your shape and your look. If you are going for a classic smart look, I would go with a sleeveless shirt, depending on the colour of your trousers and the context you could even opt for a sheer material making it a little bit more ‘risqué’. If you are going for a more casual look, make it a vest or v-neck T-shirt making sure it is fitted so as to contrast with your wide legged trousers.
If you are feeling floaty and flowery it is also possible to pair the trousers with a loose fitting but well cut see-through blouse, however be very careful when doing this, unless you are very tall and thin this look could swamp your frame making you look shorter and larger than you really are! It’s a difficult one to pull off and I for one will be staying away from it! My favourite work look for palazzos at the moment is white trousers with a striped gold and white shirt and a cardigan draped over the shoulders, pair with cute flat sandals or brown and white boating-style shoes and you have a winning summer work look!

To wear or not to wear – Palazzo Pants

This spring I have decided to be inspired by the likes of Joseph, Fendi  and Dolce and Gabana and go for the 1920s French Riviera look. It’s so sophisticated and looks so effortless. I’ve just bought the cutest little boating style flats to go with my cropped trousers and I already have an Audrey Tatou style jumpsuit (you know that Chanel No5 advert, I bet you’re obsessed with it too! – FYI if you want the real thing, YSL do a lovely jumpsuit circa £1,500). My next purchase after some flowing shirts and silk tops is a pair of Palazzo pants. These wide legged, almost skirt-like trousers are super flattering and feel amazingly luxurious. I can’t quite cope with the idea of patterned pants yet but I love these burnt orange ones from TFNC a steal at £37, bright enough not to be boring but easy enough to wear. This is a difficult style to wear when you aren’t tall so if you aren’t 6 foot tall but more of a modest 5 foot something like I am, ASOS do a Petite version as well so you’re not cleaning the floor with the bottom of your trousers.

If you still think it might not be the style for you but want to try a flattering wider leg trouser in a cool colour, these chestnut-coloured tailored wide legged pants from ASOS will be just the thing to get you on the way to wearing wider legs.

Happy shopping!
