So the sun has been out and I am convinced spring is round the corner, but it is -2 outside at the moment so I’m not quite ready to talk about little skirts, sandals and shorts just yet even though all of those are on my mind.
So until the mercury creeps up a few degrees I thought I might write about my slight fixation on all things pink, ballet and tutu. Last week I saw Black Swan which was fascinating, disturbing and amazingly beautiful all at the same time. I was completely awestruck by Natalie Portman’s performance not only her acting but the dancing in particular which was beautiful to watch, I do wish I had her poise and grace! On the fashion side, you could tell from the first shot of the performance that the costumes were by the house of Rodarte the combination of the dark almost goth look reminiscent of their Spring 2010 collection, with the ruffles and grace of the ballet tutus and costumes could only be the creations of Kate and Laura Muleavy. Incidentally, Natalie Portman also chose to wear a gown by Rodarte for the Oscars this year.
I can’t help but think that if they had let me prance around in sparkly tutus and Rodarte gowns my ballet career may not have been as short lived as it was, but let’s just say that head to toe baby pink and hair-up in tight bun was not my favourite look, so I never quite made it as a prima ballerina. However if you like ballet chic but prefer not to have to destroy your toe nails and give up cake forever more, you could try working an outfit around these cute ballet inspired heels at Miss Selfridges. It’s not the Bolshoi but it’s a start!
